The Drawbacks of Bodybuilding

While bodybuilding is a great sport and hosts numerous amazing perks, it also comes with a few negatives that you should be aware of.

Become Too Critical of Yourself

The first major disadvantage of bodybuilding is the fact that you become too critical of your own physique.

As we know, bodybuilding focuses on the aesthetic of an individual. This complete focus on muscle definition and symmetry can cause a bodybuilder to be disatisfied with their own physique, despite how good it may be. No matter how hard they train and build up their muscles, most bodybuilders tend to despise their own physical appearance.

This can eventually lead to body dysmorphia - a mental condition where a person spends a lot of timeworring about flaws in their appearance.

Less Freedom

The next key drawback of bodybuilding is that it takes up a lot of time, meaning bodybuilders have much less freedom.

Not only does working out in the gym properly take up a few hours of a bodybuilder's day, but preparing and consuming the correct food takes up a large chunk of time each day. This leaves them with very little time to engage in activites they enjoy, which negatively impacts their mental health and well-being.

Feel Like You Don't Belong In Society

The last bad thing about bodybuilding is that bodybuilders may feel as though they stand out from society as if they don't belong there.

Studies say that around 80% of young people and roughly 27% of adults around the world do not meet the average level of physical activity. However, bodybuilders are quite the opposite. While most of the world do not have good physique and aren't active, bodybuilders are constantly looking after their bodies.

This may make bodybuilders feel left out since they are different from most. However, it is actually a good thing to workout when others don't - so perhaps standing out like this isn't too bad after all.
